Thanks for writing. You offer a forum for people
to exercise some balance after being a unwilling participants to government
cover-ups. I despised the dishonesty and arrogant
contempt that the military ordered me to be part of with implied threats
if I
did not maintain the secrecy. I also felt honored
to be trusted with documenting the UFO sightings reported by members of
the USAF stationed at or around the Malmstrom AFB.
The feeling of privilege soon dissipated.
There was the feeling that if I did report these sightings
or my assignment no body would believe me. After all I was just a
lowly enlisted airman. That is why they chose
me.
It was late 1977 or early 1978 I was working in the
Base Headquarters as the Master Reference Librarian, military law and
regulations library. I worked with the Judge Advocate
General Office in the same building. When the JAG office needed to
refer to military regulations they came to me.
The library I managed was the largest in the military at the time and covered
all branches of the military.
One morning the first sergeant in charge of administration
came to my office, Senior Master (Name Withheld). He had a
typing job for me and wanted me to dedicate the day
to this assignment. He explained that it was a "rush job" with the
need
for extreme security. This was based on a freedom
of information act request. The request had been for all information
pertaining to UFO sightings reported around Malmstrom
AFB. I think it would be interesting to see if the document, I
created, was ever delivered. I digress.
The original document was approximately an inch thick, maybe 250 typed
pages.
My task was to condense the larger document by typing
only the accounts that were not blackened out. Ironically the editor
never changed pens as the felt pen began to run out
of ink. The first fifty pages were totally blacked out. What
were the
accounts or sightings that required so much ink.
After condensing about half of the accounts the text was readable through
the faded blacking out. It gave me insight into
what was considered a threat to the "Military Intelligence". They
were mostly
accounts of pilots on free flights or regular training
flights (T-38's) having observed unfamiliar phenomenon like oval objects
or
lights that seemed to pace the pilots in flight.
Many of those edited out were because the pilot admitted buzzing herds
of elk
or other unacceptable violations of their flight plan,
i.e. less than 500 feet elevation, or over national parks or private lands.
I
think there were just too many to admit to.
The pilots names had already been edited out. This infers that in
the compilation
of the information it was already edited once before
I was assigned the final condensing. Those accounts that I did include
were as innocuous as the ones toward the end that
were not to be included. Many of the accounts reported cat and mouse
like games with UFO's. Some of the reports were
long and very comprehensive.
The Strategic Air Command (SAC) has been discontinued.
I wonder what records have been archived. What is the position
of the current intelligence community concerning UFO
sightings? and the history of sightings? I'll bet they train
the pilots to
not report UFO's or to account for them in a coded
form that is secure from public disclosure. NORAD was also part of
the
base what records to they have? They were the
"scope dopes" watching all these pilot interactions on their monitors.
Maybe they are explained as radar anomalies.
The final document that I presented to the Sergeant
was about fifty pages and he explained clearly that this never happened.
He never made the assignment and I never saw any such
document. It was intrigue, it was secret and it was absurd.
I do not know if the head of administration Major(Name
Withheld) was aware of this document but I am
sure he can maintain plausible denial. I am
the only one threatened because I remember and will not forget. I
don't condone
liars and cheats in or out of uniform. I refuse
to live my life with fear of reprisal but do not want any spot light.
You take this
information and let it lead to more revelations about
the secret world of our military. More power to you. I recently
saw a
rerun on cable access and was wondering what ever
happened to "Cosmo". If you have any questions get back to me.
I later interviewed the caller
via landline phone, filed the report away, and never gave it second thought
until I resently went through my files once again, almost 5 years later.
The above email was sent to me from this individual whom wishes his name
and others involved in the incidents not to be released to the public as
to protect their privacy in this sensitve matter. Resently, I have had
more veterans from Malmstrom AFB here in Montana come forward telling their
stories from UFO incidents dating back to 1967 to present.
