Time to explore a new section of the Missouri. The tailwater below Toston Dam has a fair reputation and remains open through the winter. As the pictures show, what little snow received over the winter had largely melted by late February.
There was quite a bit of traffic on the west side of the river, but very little on the east side. Most seemed to be going further upstream than I could reach easily on the east side.

The water was pretty turbid, particularly compared to below Holter Dam. It can’t be much colder (than freezing?), but there appears to be less vegetation. The east side of the river drops off a railroad cut pretty quickly and it gets deep. Downstream there were a few channels that could be waded, but the river is plenty big in this area.

I learned a lot about this section of river, but the fish kept their secrets. We’ll be back!
