Beaverhead River – St. Andrew’s Corner up to the Measuring Station

September 1, 2008

The final fishing trip of the Labor Day weekend was back to the Upper Beaverhead.  The weather continued to be cool, windy, and damp.  Once again, the F.E. Thomas “Stoddard Special’s” accompanied me from mid-morning to mid-afternoon.

Water

No change to the water.  It was still high, cold, and plentiful.

Fishing

There was a good pod of trout nymphing the section above St. Andrew’s Corner when I arrived.   It continued on an off for a few hours.  Other fish were feeding regularly near the west shores.  In a couple cases, I was able to watch their behavior and reactions to me.  It was fun, but didn’t produce much more than a few hits.  I did manage to catch a swallow, though, leading me to conclude that I matched the hatch well enough.  Unfortunately, that didn’t prove to be what the fish were eating.
