1. Genealogies:   Researchers have published genealogies available to them.

2. Local Histories:   Both county and community histories from around Montana are an excellent source. Limited histories from other states are available as well.

3.  Biographical Works:   Biographical encyclopedias and directories aid the genealogist.

4.  Directories:   City and county directories
often provide helpful data. The collection holds assorted 1887-1959 directories and 1961-1994
for Great Falls, and numerous volumes for other Montana cities and communities.

5.  Ship Passenger Lists:   A multi-volume Passenger & Immigration Lists Index
gives hundreds of thousands of names and
dates of immigrants to our North America
ports during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.

Coroner's Records:   The Cascade Co. Records held by the library are 1893-1908, 1918-1926, 1943-1948.

Cemetery Transcriptions:   Cemetery listings for Cascade, Teton and Chouteau Counties were compiled by the society and are available through 1978. Beyond that see Obituary File.

Probate Records:   These 1903 - 1929 and 1965 - 1978 Cascade Co files are available upon request. One day wait necessary if only one librarian is on duty.

Obituary Files:   Indexed obituaries extracted from the Great Falls Tribune are on file for 1978 to the present. Includes some from other Montana newspapers.



Charts and Forms:   Available for sale from the librarian on duty. A few society generated books are also sold at the library.

Atlases and Maps:   Small collection of historical and other atlases.

Basic Reference Materials:   A wide variety of reference helps will answer your questions or direct you to specific areas for the information you require.

Census Records:   Published indexes for many states and many years. Selection of census and soundex (includes 1880, 1900-1920 census and 1900, 1920 Montana soundex) are available on microfilm.

Surname Index:   This contains names of members and the surnames they are researching. You are invited to contact these individuals if they are researching your name.

Birth Records:   Includes 1893-1919 records for Great Falls and 1919-1920 for Sand Coulee/Stockett. These must be requested from the   librarian on duty.

People File:   Consists of articles on local people and/or families from the Great Falls Tribune and various other sources. Filed by family name.

Blackfeet Indian Reservation Names:   11,500 indexed records of individuals having ties to the Blackfeet Reservation, either by relationship or having worked there. Many listings contain extensive genealogical information.

Old Age Pension Applications:  Indexed applications for Cascade County old age pensions (pre Social Security), 1923 - 1938.
